Salsa in the Square to feature Bisek in matchup of USA vs Cuba

Minnesota Storm’s World bronze medalist, Andy Bisek, who recently repeated as U.S. Open Champion in Las Vegas, has been selected to compete in the Beat the Streets “Salsa in the Square” event in New York City on Thursday, May 21st at 5:30 PM EST. The event will feature many of the United State’s best wrestlers against Cuba’s top guns.


Bisek will wrestle in a lineup including Olympic champion Jordan Burroughs, Olympic medalists Clarissa Chun and Randi Miller, and World medalists, Tervel Dlagnev, Helen Maroulis and Jake Herbert. He will face Yurisandi Hernandez Rios of Cuba in the 75 kg/165 lbs marquee matchup. He has met him twice in competition. Both times coming in the finals of the Cerro Pelado international tournament in Cuba with Bisek winning both matchups in 2014 and 2015.


This will be the first time a Cuban wrestling team will wrestle in New York City since the United States hosted the World Championships in 2003.

Beat the Streets is a non profit organization whose mission is to develop the full human and athletic potential of urban youth and to strengthen the culture of wrestling in New York City through coaching, after-school programs, and mentoring. They work directly with the New York City department of Education in a public private partnership to help New York City’s student-athletes achieve their personal and athletic goals. Through the operation of wrestling programs in five boroughs, they provide a safe and positive atmosphere where disadvantaged and at risk youth can learn essential life skills of physical fitness, teamwork, and self empowerment.
