The Minnesota Training Center’s, Allie Krings, met up with Tony Nelson earlier this week to discuss his current affiliation with the Minnesota Golden Gophers and the upcoming Dave Schultz Memorial International Tournament in Colorado Springs, January 30. Nelson is coming off a spectacular college career at the University of Minnesota, where he won two NCAA titles, earned four All-American honors, and compiled an impressive 120-15 record. While in college, he also had a bit of freestyle success, placing 5th in the 2012 University World Championships in Finland.

The Dave Schultz Memorial International will be his first competition back since placing second in last year’s NCAA Championships. After a good stretch of time away from competition, he’s back, motivated, and better than ever. Check out Allie’s one-on-one interview with Tony above.

Tony is one of six MTC members competing at the Dave Schultz. Other MTC members competing include Zach Sanders (57 kg), Bebeto Yewah (65 kg), Kevin LeValley (70 kg), Dustin Schlatter (70 kg), and Joe Nord (97 kg).
