Greco wrestlers Ryan Mango and Brian Graham met up with Allie Krings before they departed for Tehran, Iran to compete in the 35th annual Takhti Cup. The prestigious tournament is expected to have 13 different countries represented, featuring some of the world’s best wrestlers. Graham and Mango will weigh-in Wednesday, February 11, and compete on Thursday, February 12.
Not many United States citizens get a chance to travel to Iran. Graham (66kg) and Mango (59kg) are an exception. They are traveling to participate in an international event, which aided their efforts to receive the required travel visas to enter Iran. They are two of only three U.S. Greco Roman wrestlers competing in the tournament.
“I’m pretty excited about this trip. It’s my first time overseas, and going to Iran is going to be something special,” said Graham.
After the Takhti Cup, both will travel to Zagreb, Croatia, and meet up with Jake Fisher (75 kg) and Joe Rau (80 kg) to compete in the Grand Prix Zagreb Open, February 20-22. From there, Rau will continue on to Hungary to train and compete with Storm teammates, Andy Bisek (75 kg) and Jordan Holm (85 kg).
