After high school Andy planned to attend the University of Minnesota-Mankato and compete in NCAA DII. He changed his mind at the last minute and decided to train Greco full-time at the United States Olympic Education Program at Northern Michigan University. He credits this experience with helping him excel in Greco.
Since his freshman year he has been overseas numerous times to train Greco with foreign national teams and to represent the US in competition. He made two FILA Junior World Teams and won University Nationals four times in college.
His career is on the rise as he pursues Olympic gold in 2016. He took home five gold medals in international competition in 2014. He also won the U.S. Open and became the first U.S. Greco athlete since 2009 to win a medal in the World Championships.
In 2015, Andy continued to win on the biggest stage. He represented the U.S. in the World Championships for the fourth time in his career and during the competition he won five matches, including victories over two former World Champions, to win a second consecutive World bronze medal.
